MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To coordinate, manage, and continuously improve all slope monitoring activities required to detect, interpret, communicate, and respond to developing geotechnical hazards so that people, equipment, infrastructure, and production are protected..

Key Performance Areas

• Respond to slope monitoring alarms and immediately notify relevant stakeholders.
• Record all alarms, response actions, response times, and close-out reports.
• Ensure critical slope areas are monitored using fit-for-purpose slope monitoring systems.
• Interpret displacement trends, movement velocity, cumulative movement, and spatial deformation data.
• Ensure alarm triggers result in the correct operational response at all times.
• Conduct geotechnical site inspections, testing, and analysis.
• Process and maintain geotechnical data using QGIS, Microsoft Office, and slope monitoring software.
• Coordinate the maintenance, calibration, verification, cleaning, and relocation of monitoring instruments.
• Liaise with the Survey team regarding prism installation and integrity inspections.
• Implement geotechnical monitoring programmes to support safe mining operations and mine plan objectives.

Requirements & Experience

• Grade 12 or current NSSCO with at least 20 points over 5 subjects.
• Minimum 3 years' experience as a Geological Technician.
• Diploma in Geology or Engineering will be an added advantage.
• Experience in an open-pit mining environment is advantageous.
• Valid Code B/BE Driver's Licence.
