Job Description:

As one of the key members of the management team and reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager will be responsible for the clinker and cement manufacturing part of the operation. He/she will closely cooperate with the other departmental managers responsible for mining, safety, maintenance, packing and quality assurance. This position is at Plant Sargberg (Tsumeb/Otavi based).


Responsibilities:

  • Manage all employees in the clinker and cement production department, including continuous shift operations.
  • Manage the different parts of the clinker and cement production operation and meet the different production targets regarding safety, quality, costs and environment.
  • Initiate and implement process, plant and organizational optimization projects to improve efficiencies, enhance product quality, increase productivity, automate operations and reduce cost.
  • Closely cooperate with the Quality Assurance Department with regards to the quality of products, use of alternative fuels and process optimization.
  • Ensure high availability and utilization of installed plant equipment including crusher, raw mill, kiln, fuel preparation, cement mills and mobile equipment.

  • Support Maintenance Departments with preventative maintenance planning, scaffolding requirements and inspections.
  • Plan and manage refractory maintenance and manage refractory stockholding.
  • Prepare departmental budget and review monthly cost reports, manage costs.
  • Develop and train employees in department to meet organizational objectives.
  • Ensures that company’s disciplinary rules and regulations are adhered to, and procedures are applied continuously.
  • Ensure all departmental risk assessments are updated and applied.
  • Revise existing and create new work instructions to ensure safe working procedures and safe work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, for e.g. Labour Act, Health and Safety Regulations, Environmental Management Act, etc.
  • Participate in audits and ensure departmental compliance to applicable standards.
  • Perform weekend standby duties.

Job Requirements:

  • Self-driven, resourceful and dependable individual with proven leadership skills.
  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering / Process Engineering with ten (10) years’ general experience in a cement plant or similar industrial/mining operation.
  • In-depth technical understanding of cement manufacturing process and equipment.
  • Strong theoretical and practical emphasis on process improvement.
  • High degree of computer literacy and digital fluency.
  • High level of stress tolerance, discipline, decisiveness, punctuality.
  • Good communication skills and fluency in English
