PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Design, evaluate, and supervise welding operations, ensuring the integrity and quality of welds in accordance with engineering standards, codes, and project requirements. Welding Engineers play a critical role in a variety of manufacturing projects, working on the design and maintenance of welding systems, utilizing advanced techniques like laser technology, training welders, and continuously improving welding processes for efficiency and quality.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Design and Development

  • Design welded parts, assemblies, and structures, including buildings, pressure vessels, pipelines, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement welding standards, material selection, weld joint design, and optimized welding processes.
  • Utilize advanced welding techniques, including laser technology, across a range of projects.

Welding Procedure Development

  • Develop and qualify welding procedures, supplier qualifications, and testing protocols in line with industry standards and project requirements.
  • Create repair procedures and assess defects to determine fitness-for-service of components and structures.
  • Ensure welding, heat treatment, hardness testing, inspection, and non-destructive testing comply with relevant codes and specifications.

Welding Supervision and Troubleshooting

  • Manage welding operations and troubleshoot issues, providing corrective solutions to optimize processes.
  • Evaluate and refine welding processes to improve performance, quality, and productivity.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams and liaise with clients on welding requirements.
  • Raise and close out non-compliance reports where applicable.
  • Investigate welding-related issues to improve product performance and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Assess welding defects and develop strategies to ensure long-term structural integrity.
  • Provide training to welders on new techniques, processes, and design updates.
  • Mentor and guide welding teams in implementing innovative welding methods.

Production Planning

  • Select and optimize welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick welding) to enhance production speed and quality.
  • Plan materials and consumables (metals, gases, etc.) to ensure efficient stock levels and reduce waste.
  • Collaborate on fixture, jig, and tooling design to ensure consistency and productivity.
  • Develop welding sequences and schedules aligned with overall production timelines.
  • Establish quality control measures, including non-destructive testing and inspection checkpoints.
  • Create and review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) detailing processes, materials, techniques, and parameters.

Minimum Qualification & Experience Requirement:

  • Minimum 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Welding Engineer specialization.
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in welding coordination, welding engineering, or welding quality management.
  • Certified Welding Inspector and/or NDT certification will be an added advantage.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office.
