PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To monitor and control the chemical, microbial, weight and organoleptic quality of all the products (incoming, in process and final product) by testing and recording laboratory and system results and monitoring/ communicating out of spec results, in order to achieve set specifications of the individual product ranges. Continuously review and improve the laboratory processes, to ensure that they are of adherence to the ISO standards and Food Safety standards.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Test all incoming raw products, in-process and final product samples as per sampling plan in line with quality-specific work instructions.
  • Record all sample results timeously on the correct data sheet.
  • Perform analysis and re-tests on non-conforming products and customer complaints.
  • Record re-test results on the Laboratory Out of Specification result register and submit to Superior.
  • Perform proficiency tests for external lab facilities, receive results and take corrective action where necessary.
  • Provide feedback of out-of-spec results to Superior and relevant Team Leader.
  • Provide recommendations for corrective action regarding out-of-specification results to relevant parties.
  • Complete and maintain lab results and check sheets and lab equipment.
  • Verify working conditions and effectiveness of lab equipment and report to Superior.
  • File and maintain lab results and record folders.
  • Provide recommendations for new ways of testing and quality systems improvement to Superior.
  • Perform inventory and management of lab consumables.
  • Perform stock rotation and FIFO on laboratory consumables to minimize stock and material losses.
  • Report early warnings on out-of-stock/low-stock levels to Superior.
  • Perform on-the-job training for new Laboratory Technicians and fixed-term personnel, complete the on-the-job training form, and submit to Superior.
  • Supervisory duties, overseeing the kitchen staff and orders.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • B.Sc. in Food Science or Microbiology.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a laboratory, preferably in the food industry/FMCG environment.
